At Ex Animo our focus is on breeding Leonbergers of sound temperament and structure, paying close attention to the original Leonberger breed standard. We don't shy away from crossing mountains and oceans to find that perfect, carefully selected breeding partner for our females in order to keep health risks as low as possible and temperament and type at the top of our checklist.

We want to foster the Leonberger breed in its original purpose, meaning good health and longevity, and optimal suitability as a family dog. We love sharing our dogs in therapy events and visits and many of our dogs and puppies have successful careers in the conformation show ring, obedience, water sports, nose work, carting, or agility – but first and foremost they all need to be well rounded members of their families, so we place special importance on raising well-rounded puppies.

To start, our puppies are raised in our home, and after the appropriate time with just their mom they join our other dogs in a busy household and are exposed to as many life lessons as possible. They are socialized, health checked with first shots, they go on short road trips and store visits and finally undergo a temperament test so we can best match and prepare them for a happy transfer into their perfect forever home. Their new families become our family and we will stay in contact with them with advice and support for the life of the dog.
